You can do projects under professors in Electrical Engineering. I think many of them would be ready to help you. Also, in my time, we were allowed to take 34 open category credits (this number might have changed), where you could choose courses from electrical engineering that interest you. I chose practically all my OC courses from Physics.
In any case, your branch comes under Mechanical Engineering, there are many students/professors from Mechanical engineering, who work in robotics and mechatronics, you can work with those students/ professors. It involves a lot of electronics. You can be the electronics expert of the mechatronics team.
