Why does the weather in the United States, generally travel from west to east?

I don't think this is true. The weather on the west coast travels from west to east. The weather on the east coast travels from east to west, eg., most of the hurricanes originate in the Atlantic ocean. The cold weather in Minnesota originates in Canada.

Weather travels from regions of higher pressure to regions of lower pressure in general.
