Why should Indian bank notes have the portraits of Gandhiji or anyone else?

What is wrong with a little personal touch? In any case Gandhi's image makes it easy for the even the foreigners to recognize that it is Indian currency. Moreover he is probably the least controversial person who is acceptable by people of all religions in India. Anyway having his picture on currency does not make him greater than the country just as having green color on the currency does not make green color bigger than the nation.
